The Nile Valley Authority for River Navigation was established in 1975 as a Sudanese-Egyptian joint authority for river navigation between the governments of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Sudan to become the fruit of integration between the peoples of the Nile Valley. The authority was established during the era of Presidents Muhammad Anwar Sadat, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and President Jaafar Muhammad Nimeiri, President of Sudan, on the date of Muharram 1394, signed in Khartoum on July 15, 1975.
